Hi,
I have a friend that is having a lot of problems with her 99 Saab 9-5 wagon with the 4 cylinder. She had major engine troubles and had a shop replace the motor. They replaced it with a used motor that had 29K miles on it. Now she had a problem with leaking coolant (mechanic told her it may be the thermostat, which I am offering to replace, but can't see how a bad Tstat would cause coolant to leak from vehicle) and also a mechanic (different shop) that replaced the serpentine belt/pulleys (also went bad shortly after engine replacment) told her that she is leaking oil form near the head gasket area, bit did not look into the cause. Is this a common leak on these motors? What is the most common cause of a leak in this location and how involved is the repair.
I am hoping to help her fix some of these problems because she has had so much trouble with this car and can't afford to keep taking it into shops.
