Dean has posted many helpful D-I-Y instruction sets for various vehicle maintenance and repair jobs. If you want illustrations also try Taliaferro's web site (page link below) for pictorial guides.
I have replaced my front pads twice; first at 55,000 miles with OEM replacements because the original pads were worn, then at 80,000 miles with aftermarket pads because the front rotors appeared worn and I was sick of the chronic brake dust. At the 80,000 mile change I did rear pads also as well as all four rotors, all were aftermarket parts. Rear pads and rotors from the factory will probably last for greater than 100,000 miles, but I wanted cross-drilled rotors and matching pad compounds on all wheels.
This is an easy and satisfying D-I-Y repair job. See section #5 of the service instruction page for information on brakes. Enjoy!
