Discovered a fuel gauge bug? . . .

An interesting but not necessarily debilitating quirk I discovered. . . .
For the first time since owning my '01 2.3L, I left the key in the ignition in ACC position to allow my passenger to operate the windows while I filled the tank all the way up from about 1/4.
Well, when I started up again by twisting the key clockwise straight from ACC, everything was normal aside from the fuel gauge staying only around half full. Apparently there's inaccurate communication from the sender unit without a full reset . . . because when I pulled over and restarted the ignition, the gauge rose all the way up where it belonged.
By the way, I've also noticed that you can keep closing the sunroof even if you pull the key out midway through, but the same isn't true with closing the windows. Hmmm.
