AAA has worked for me Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: AAA, Leon, Mon, 9 Aug 2004 11:22:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've got the AAA plus, and consider it indespensible. I've needed them twice. One was only 3 miles from the house when a belt let go - they came by in 20 minutes or so, and the car was quickly home where I could address the belt with no issue.
The other was 30 miles from home when the transmission blew. Since this was a rebuild from a shop 60 miles from my house (in the other direction), they loaded it up on a flatbed and drove it the 90 miles to the shop, no questions asked (on a Sunday afternoon).
Add in that AAA gets you discounts on lots of things (many autoparts stores, hotels, etc.) and the free maps, it's worth the money.
Saab Roadside Assistance isn't a dedicated band of tow trucks just for Saabs. SRA is just like every other Roadside Assistance, and AAA - they contract with local tow truck operators. It's probably the same guy with the same truck no matter which Roadside Assistance program you get. Yeah, I'm sure there is a screening process, and Joe's Roadside Assistance may let in a different quality of tow shop than Mercedes RA. But if the local tow operator gets a call, it's going to take the same amount of time if the call came via AAA or Saab RA.
