For '04, the maintenance interval is 15K. You can do that if not short trips etc etc. The manual is quite specific about what you need for an oil to support those service intervals. So have a look. You are pretty well tied down and the only logical choice is Mobil 1 0W40. And the dealers are switching over to Mobil 1 and there is a marketing agreement between the two companies, so what you will get at the dealer will be Mobil 1*. Saab is not importing Saab labled full synthetic oil from europe anymore. Dealers are offered Mobil 1 in bulk drums as well via this new arrangement.

Bottom line, Saab only needs to provide 2 free full services at 15 amd 30K, instead of the prior 10k, 20K, 30K.
It would appear that to support the letter of the law in the 03 warranty, you cannot use M1 'Truck and SUV' 5W40.
