Ref previous posts. A/C was DOA at mid-April delivery. Took it to the nearest dealer (Symes Saab, Pasadena, CA) who evacuated and recharged the system, but still dead. During five warranty service visits between late April and early June (27 days off the road) they proceeded to change about every computer that could possibly be a factor (some of them "twice" - pun intended). Throughout, my A/C was blowing cool air, but not cold enough to pass the WIS A/C test (best temp on LO was around 52F). Symes finally told me basically to go away, the A/C was fine and I was wasting their time and Saab's money.
After sweating through June and July in Southern California, I decided to try a different dealer.
On Monday, Saab of Santa Monica told me the refrigerant pressures were out of spec. They evacuated and recharged again, and voila - cold air. Center vent temp pegged on 40F in normal driving and about 42F on the standard performance test (passing is 44.5F or colder).
Perhaps Symes assumed the refrigerant had to be OK since that was the first thing they changed. Who knows. Anyway, the Santa Monica dealer has won another client, even though it is 12 miles farther away than Pasadena.
Sometimes you have to drive a little farther, eh Anders?
Thanks to everyone for their patience with my rants and help with my questions.
Decided not to sell the blue '96 900SET - passed it to one of my sons so we'll still be a 3-Saab family.
And, if the Aero goes wonky again some day, I have banked 28 shop days toward the lemon law (bingo at 30).
