Familiarity...... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: '01 9-5 SE Wagon to '04 9-5 Arc or Aero Wagon?, Stwood, Tue, 17 Aug 2004 05:01:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I think a little familiarity with the four cylinder turbo will bring rewards. The V6's strong suit is off the line, the fours are great off the line too, but have a different characteristic and throttle response and an entirely different sound. The V6's have an audible reward for acceleration, that sweet intake roar, the fours are pretty silent masking the greater surge.
I find that the sport setting has a much greater and more desireable effect in the fours. Overall the 5 speed auto is nicer, but I'm not suprised that a brief test drive didn't allow it learn your driving style better and smooth out the shifts.
Once you get used to the four you'll appreciate the increased performance and better fuel economy. The Arc and the Aero are pretty close on power, too much and way too much, and identical on fuel mileage. I find even the Linear's 185 hp to be a performance match and preferable to the V6, plus I'm a way old Saab guy and I just like the Saab fours.
If you're gonna' mount snows every winter than the 17's on the Aero are no disadvantage. And a lowered 17" wheel Aero is still a nice riding car, but get used to scraping the front spoiler. With an Arc you need to get the premium package to upgrade to your old SE spects, Harmon Kardon, memory seats and auto dimming inside mirror now with compass and HomeLink too.
