The verdict is in...the dreaded P1301 code... ANOTHER misfire on cylinder #1. Hmmmmm.
This now makes (drum roll please or scream, whichever is your style) DI cassette #3 on an Aero with less than 12,000 miles.
Now to be fair cassette #1 and #2 didn't fail in the classic sense (i.e., sudden unexpected engine failure) but was preceeded by a steady CEL (DIC #1) and a flashing CEL only on hard acceleration (DIC #2). I do live in SoCal and it's pretty warm here most of the time. I cool the engine off after a long drive by lifting the hood. Thought the preventive maintenance would help... not sure it did anything really.
Pat, my question is what could be causing the #1 cylinder to misfire three times in a row? Is this a software problem or something else ignition related, ignoring for the moment my unlucky experience with the first two DI cassettes... they could have been poorly manufactured I suppose.
From the service ticket:
"TECH II Code P1301--CK AS PER WIS. NO CODE ON IDM-- COMPRESS ABOUT 210 ON ALL CYLINDERS--FOUND BURNT MARKS ON DI CASSETTE. REPLACED DI CASSETTE AND SPARK PLUGS AND RESET SYSTEM."
So, DI falure or something fouling plug #1? "No code on IDM" leaves me thinking it's something else. Any thoughts appreciated.
