I can't speak to the 2002 as an alternative to '01, but after much scrutiny we are leasing an '04 Arc wagon, as turn-in for our '01 wagon is rapidly approaching. All my reading of the available discussion (much of it on this board) has convinced me there's little doubt that the machine was upgraded in '02, and that we're well served by getting the Arc model. The truth is that the current Linear model can't be brought up to the level of features that our '01 has- it was either lease an Arc or accept less car- and we weren't prepared to do that.
As far as the weather band, yes, I found it strange that it was omitted, since it CAN'T cost that much, and was a feature I valued. Nevertheless, WB radios are cheap enough, and not important enough to me to base a decision on whether or not to choose a particular car. An off-the-wall suggestion: get the '02 and try to work a swap with the radio in your car. There seems little question but that the unit will fit, so it comes down to the question of whether or not the antenna in the newer cars supports weather band. Failing in this, perhaps a radio from a salvage yard could be secured.
