DIC failure due to heat and vibration

Since the direct ignition cassette is so problematic, and the most likely cause is heat and vibration due to it being bolted directly to the top of the cylinder head, I wonder if relocating the DIC and using good old HT leads is an alternative? Ive had cars with 4 coil solid state ignitions before now that located the coils off to the side near the airbox and used HT leads. Would that work with the trionics post ignition ionisation sensing through the sparkplug? If so then Im sure a handly mechanic could bodge together a solution with the cassette isolation mounted on the firewall or similar and HT leads to the engine, and saab would be able to do the same but neater even as a retrofit kit.
It would result in a less aesthetic looking engine, but theres nothing aesthetic about being stuck dead at the side of the road with a fried cat.
