They also did the PCV update to mine, it is a service bulletin for "as needed". All they told me was that the hose had collapsed. I don't know what impact that has on the engine.

I had an "interesting" dialogue regarding the rattling cupholder. He refused to have the tech replace it (the fix is now an entire cupholder unit with foam attached) because he couldn't hear the rattle. When I finally told him I would make another appointment and take a loaner for a whole day, I got a new cupholder in less than 3 minutes.

I informed them that the telescopic steering joint had been lubed about a year ago and the knock disappeared for a time, but came back. They supposedly lubed it again but it did not take care of the problem this time. The bigger issue was that the service tech was new and he didn't want to listen to any problem descriptions, all that got written down was "clunk". That makes it pretty hard to diagnose and fix the problem.

They told me the reverse side mirror works (it is intermittent) and that the park assist is fine (it is totally unpredictable). The creaky driver's door still creaks, and the dome light switch on the pass side worked for them (intermittent also). I was very unsatisfied with the visit, but at least the cupholder doesn't rattle anymore.

The "nice" service writer told me that Saab now requires them to use hotter spark plugs because they were having problems with cold starts in the spring (I experienced it twice but did not report it to them). They thought it was the ethanol in the gas, but apparently dropped that theory. I don't know if the hotter plugs are regional, or across the board, but he also told me that they will kill the DI a lot faster. Great. Now what's wrong with that picture??? He told me it will die and just hope it is before 50K. OK, I'll look forward to it :-(

They reported that I have over 50% of my front brakes left, and 75% of the rear. They also replaced all the lug nuts (eventhough I have alloy winter wheels) because they were corroding. Who am I to argue? He said the new ones are coated with a different material. Now how does that BMW ad go? I went to the cashier and asked how much I owed, and they said "nothing!". That was the best part.

Good Luck,
AeroLady
