HI,
I picked up a MY 99 9-5SW earlier this year. I learned from this board to watch for a few electrical issues in that version (Direct Injection Cassette, Crank Position Sensor), and I have also read that the MY02 had the best of all the toys.
The rear passengers get air from below the front seat, from a blower in the center console and from a vent along the B-pillar. My version has both heated front and rear seats - in the front, four levels (0,1,2,3) and in the rear one (on or off).
My wagon is the base package, which would probably now be called a Linear.
From my point of view, although the Aero and Arc are sexier trim lines, I hate the idea of have to worry about the low front spoilers when driving through snow and ice.
I have the 2.3 lpt engine, rated 170 HP. I recently upgraded the ECU software and noted that it increased in peppiness.
We have twin boys, now almost 7 months old. The wagon is great - we can put the infant seat bases in the left and centre positions and my wife or I can ride in the right rear with them. Look for the hard shelf that folds - great change station on the fly. Look for the cargo rack and pins, and see if it has the mud guard for the rear - great option for lugging stuff. We have the cargo net bar along the back of the seat, in which the net comes up to attach to the interior roof, for safety when hauling larger items.
We got the SAAB special roof rack, and bought the Thule 15 cu ft box, and combined with the rear cargo area, had plenty of room on our vacation to Concord, MA from Toronto.
You will see mention on the board of the CPO Certified Pre-owned program. Go for it, because it extends the warranty in both USA and Canada.
As for the fuel economy, I run at 20 mpg city and 28mpg highway (24 mpIg and 34mpIg approximately here in Canada). This is not as good as the 2.0l turbo in my MY00 9-3, but I am pulling a substantially larger load.
Sorry, no experience with the ventilated seats. Our leather ones seem a bit slippery to me - I was used to cloth.
Very happy so far with it, and this board has kept my head up about the potential issues.
As Mike Lynch says, there ain`t nobody cooler than a SW owner!!!
I have seen about 10 in the Greater Toronto Area over the past year, and everyone thinks my five year old car is brand new. That`s definitely worth the price of admission.
This is my fourth SAAB - 1976 99GL, 1995 900S 5spd 2.3l regular, 2000 9-3 5spd 2.0l turbo,.....
Regards,
crNiFe
