Serpentine replacement

We recently added a 1999 9.5 to our Saab family. I am a long time Saab 900 and 9000 aficionado. I once replaced a broken serpentine belt and the pulleys of a 9000 on the road with nothing but a large C-clamp and a set of wrenches. On the other, hand the job looks formidable with the 9-5. Do you really have to undo an engine mount to change the belt? Should one still replace the idler pulleys as a matter of course every 60,000 miles or are they better made these days?
Your comments will be appreciated.
