If you are used to owning a European car, the reliability and maintenance cost of a Saab will be no surprise to you. The 9-5 is currently rated as the most reliable European car. Taking care of the car will reward you with an enjoyable driving experience.
If, however, you are expecting the appliance-like reliability (and character) to be found in the typical Honda or Toyota you will be disappointed. The Japanese vehicles offer a degree of care free driving that the Europeans can't match.
Having driven both, the Saab offers an experience in between the BMW and the Toyota - not as polished-perfect a driver's car as a BMW (at least 3-series) but much more exciting than the typical Japanese import (eg. Camry).
