Hi,
I have a 99MY 9-5 wagon, 85000km on it. Purchased a 36mo 60kkm warranty in February, for about 1000Cdn per year. That was supposed to be from the Dealer's network, but I got a Saturn extended warranty card in the mail this week, and I am not going to complain.

Check Ian Glenday's posts regarding the 2.3lpt engine and proper maintenance. I learned a lot from him, and as a result I picked up my own DI locally as well as the Crank Position Sensor, mostly for peace of mind when I travel with my young twin boys and wife.

Even though I have the service records for my vehicle, and there are some major repairs, so far only an oxygen sensor has failed. Covered under warranty. I did have a weird crank but not start issue last month, and suspected the check valve in the fuel pump, but instead I got the local dealer to install my CPS, and voila, it starts on the second turn (knock on wood).

However, the key is flushing your oil system. I had mine done by my tire dealer and there was a lot of sludge in the sump and pan. Then I changed the oil again about ten days later. Sludge equals engine death.

One last point - I also paid for a software upgrade for my ECU (about an hour labour)part 5383377, which replaced the very old software from 2000. It seems to have made a difference in the way the engine performs, and apparently this version has better diagnostic codes for electrical problems.

By the way, if you had chosen a lemon, it would have already died!!!!

Cheers from Willowdale
