Correct, European ratings are higher. American ratings are the average of MON (Motor Octane Number) and RON (Research Octane Number). European gas is rated on RON alone. Since RON is usually about 10 points higher than MON, European gas will show half that spread in increased octane number which leaves it about points higher than US gas. So 98 octane in Europe (and I presume Iceland) is equal to our 93 octane.
