Auto Trans Input Shaft Seal-Replace while engine out?

I'm getting antsy to get this POS back together but my buddy is bugging me to replace the input seal on the trans before coupling them. What does the record show on these in the 9-5 and NG 900s with the AW transmissions? They sure seem to hold up in the RWD Volvos for a long time. This one is at 122K; it's apart for the traditional oil-starved engine replacement courtesy of POs.
As always, TIA.
