I have had good luck with Warranty Direct. I purchased an extended warranty when I purchased my Passat in 2000 in order to add some "piece of mind" In 2000 VW offered a paltry 2-24k bumper to bumper warranty. The warranty has more than paid for itself. I have had 3 repairs done at 3 different repair shops; 2 independents and one dealer and everything went without a hitch. My repairs were a MAF sensor failure that occurred at 85k, upper control arms, lower control arms, a tie rod end, torn boot, and various leaky engine gaskets. They even paid for the alignment following the suspension repairs. I was hesitant when I purchased the warranty but now I am glad I did.
One thing -- they won't even let you see the contract until you purchase. I didn't care for that but there were no surprises. It appeared to be on the level. You do have a period of time to cancel for a full refund
