Volvo, BMW, Mercedes eat rotors for breakfast, lunch and dinner with OEM pads. I don't know about VW.
20-30K miles on the pads and rotors are almost the norm if you do a lot of stop and go driving or live on a hill.
It did get worse when the outlawed Asbestos and car manufacturer had to find a substitute that didn't make noise and stopped the car fast.
Dust and early pad/rotor wear was the drawback of having quite brakes.
