Alarm deactivation on 9-5

Have my new 05 Aero wagon now for a week - what a hoot! Quick question about the alarm system. Does the system arm itself automatically? When I park the car in my garage and turn off the ignition, the light starts blinking and I must use the key control to later deactivate the alarm. The doors are not locked, but the system is on? Could not find anything in the owners manual.
Thanks
