Regarding the 99 9-5: just got finished tweeking some of the rough spots on my new purchase. Look at the repairs and see if the oil changes were done routinely and with synthetic or semi- syn. oil. Long or missing intervals will spell trouble as the pickup screen is quite fine and the oil prone to coking with the turbo's high temps. PO of mine did the oil routinely but still needed timing chains done at 120K. Glad that was in the past. SID is crap but may be salvageable with some of the 'fixes' out there. No luck on mine so will replace it - it will be the 5th in the car. Otherwise, it is a very nice quiet car with predictable manners. The PCV service bulletin (check to see if the most recent one is done: look for a hose running to the oil fill pipe from the white check valve (remove the oil filler cap, remove the plastic cover that snaps on) and that the line from behind the engine has a small 'plug' looking thang level with the intake manifold on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Mine was not done and I can say that it really makes a mess as the oil will find every opportunity to escape from the engine not to mention destroying various hoses in the process. Not too expensive to do and certainly helps the running quality of the car! In the links, look at Townsend's website for the service bulletin. Took me an hour to do in the driveway only because I had one recalcitrant bolt...
Good car and a pleasure to drive so far. Will be doing some suspension upgrades to make it 'better'. Not an Aero but not close to the price. Aero suspension can be duplicated to a large degree with Saab parts.
Enjoy,
Brooks
