That's expensive for only 1 extra year.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Cost of Extended warranty for 2001 9-5 SE model, Bhavesh Shah, Tue, 26 Oct 2004 20:38:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The factory warranty is already 4/50 so a 5/100 is only an extra year. I doubt if the miles will come into play. I bet you're saying to yourself "But I thought that was 5 years from today", hmmm....generally not. Vehicles that are still within the original factory warranty are usually quoted with a term that references from when the car was new.
So you need to clarify that. And do you need 100,000 miles? There is probably a plan with more years and less miles that would work better.
What kind of coverage is being offered? Is is a "bumper to bumper" or what's called an exclusionary warranty, sorta' like an original factory warranty, there's a fairly short list of exclusions, mostly wear items anyway. Or is it a named component warranty which has groups of covered components with specific lists in each group of what's exactly covered. A named component warranty is good for the big things, but somehow what you thought should be covered is never on the actual list.
A first line extended warranty like the General Motors Protection Plan lists for $2,645 for a zero deductible 6/100 (from the in-service date or when the vehicle was new) "bumper to bumper" exclusionary warranty.
