To "set" readiness codes can take awhile. Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How long till codes reset?, kurdtdonald, Sun, 31 Oct 2004 07:01:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
And if the problem that triggered your CEL to come on at the first place is still there, it will trigger the CEL again before the "readiness" codes are set.
That's the way it works nowadays with the new smog requirements. They don't want to you reset the CEL outside the smog station and drive in to have it smogged.
They also require that the "readiness" codes (flags) are set. Those can only be set if the car doesn't have any problems.
It can take a week or so for a regular driver to start and drive the car in such a pattern that the readiness requirements are achived.
This is called a "trip". Sometimes, several "trips" are needed to set all readiness flags.
