Great care should be taken with modern cars O2 sensor Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Oxygen sensor replacement, Schneider, Wed, 3 Nov 2004 11:24:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A lot of things are changed in around 2000 and up and it is also different sensors in different countries.
Yes it is possible to splice a 4 wire sensor in but only if you have the precise match 4 wire sensor.
The 4662359 cross over to Bosch 13817(with harness) or the Bosch generic 15738.
The 4660502 cross over to Bosch 13661(with harness)or the Bosch generic 15738.
This for up to 1999.
From 2000 they changed the way the sensor is operating so you can't use one for those years in an older car.
As a side note, Volvo have huge problems with their O2 sensors right now and several bulletins has been sent out cautioning to use only Volvo original sensors with a special harness adapter enclosed.
Volvo mention that the fresh air that the sensor need for reference gets contaminated by some glue used in the factory harness.
Volvo independant shops all over are having big problems until they install the right Volvo sensor with the extra harness.
So if you try and splice a generic sensor in and later run into problems with C/E light coming on, start with installing a proper sensor before chasing another problem.
