Long story on the 2 9-5s ... The 9-5 SE was going to be for my parents. They were in a 93 Geo with 240K miles on it and it was time for something better. My father was sick, and there wasn't any time or money to go out right away and replace it. The idea was originally anything but black or white, but I found a loaded green LPT SE for a great price. I'd let my parents try it out and they could give me a little something later on if they liked it, so I gave it to my mother as a surprise birthday present.

If for some wild reason they didn't like it, I'd take it back because I wanted to replace the 900SE anyway. Unfortunately, my father never got better, and passed away, so things changed...it's basically on permanent loan now, meaning she gets all the use and I do the maintenance when I'm up there. Being an amateur wrench head, I like it that way. My sister, who is still lives at home with my mother, routinely steals it instead of driving her brand new turbo Jetta.

A few months after I got it, and it was clear the SE would probably be a keeper, I was idly browsing the auction sites for an Aero and another great deal pops up, it happened to be green, and happened to be from the very same guys I got the SE. (In the pictures, the SID even displayed my birthday!) Why buck the trend?

As for ride, the SE is very softly sprung, and on the Conti tires it came with, it leans alot when you throw it around. It doesn't ever really plow, though. I wouldn't call the Aero uncomfortable in any way...it is harsher, but what little extra harshness there is accompanied with far far more handling capability. But this is 99/00, I think by 02 there were sway bar upgrades, and there's a bunch of stuff you can do to the SE level to tighten it up.

Just to know where I'm coming from, the 900SE was extremely harsh because it was very tightly sprung, plus the suspension had much less travel. So, I may be a little more forgiving of bumps in the Aero since the 900SE was going to start knocking my teeth out (NYC/northern jersey roads)
