Recap:

A while back my climate control had konked out on me. It was the end of a HOT summer in Sacto and air wasn't being pushed through the vents. At 99k miles I called the dealer and explained the problem. They insisted the soonest that they could get me in would be a month later. I asked if that would be a problem since I would likely be over my warranty by the time they could see me. They reassured me multiple times that it would in fact not be a problem. They even went so far as to promise to make a note of it in the computer.

When I finally made it into the shop I was 240 over my warranty and as you can guess their word over the phone meant nothing to my warranty company and made no inroads toward an internal moral conviction on their own part. In short, I wasn't covered for the repairs.

The general manager was so pompus... I explained that the service girl wouldn't fit me for anything sooner and had even made the promise two which he said...

"It isn't as if it's her car needing repair. She has no interest in whether you have it repaired under warranty or not..."

PISSED

Development:

I left the shop with a bill for the inspection and nothing repaired. They looked under the hood and surmised that the blower was broken (duh) but that when it had failed it had as well blown the controling computer.

This weekend I pulled the blower with instructions gleened from SAABnet. I cleaned the brushes and contacts and sprayed the thing completely with electrical cleaner (organic solvents in a can= joy). After messing with the motor a bit I got it back in and VIOLA!

The motor worked fine. While this may be just a temporary fix for the motor and I may need to by new brushes soon what's obvious to me is that the controlling computer (that they would have replaced and charged me for) was in fact FINE.

These people are crooks.

So... moving on...(rant breath rant) can anyone recommend an indie? =)
