It's a real PIA to troubleshoot an intermittent problem. I had a similar journey with MAP sensor, but in your case it could be something else. Most likely it's not a MAP for you as I had a different symptoms ( power loss mainly ).
Some tips:
First of all it's a good thing that you have CEL sometimes-you have a starting point.
It would be a good investment to spent about $100 and get yourself OBD-II reader to pull the CE code from your car when it lights up next time and go from there.
If you're lucky - you'll get a proper code pointing to an exact part. If you have generic code like I had - P0327 KS1 CLI(B1) Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank1) - do not hurry to replace DI cassette as I did, because it wasn’t the case, couple days later CEL went off again, but this time with 2 codes - again P0327 and P0106 MAPBSR/P Manifold Absolute Engine Controller or Barometric Sensor Range/Performance.
Since I replaced MAP sensor the car runs fine, but I end up spending $450 for DIC to store it in my garage.
