Tim, Saab originally offered me "good faith" 2k toward repairs or 2.5 toward new car (ha!). I had the Bureau of Automotive Repairs guy out to Saab dealer, he said "good faith" his butt! Likely a hidden recall of the pulley. After I threatened to sue them for any repair cost I had to pay (plus the two weeks of car rental while they tried to get the Saab rep to cop to responsibility) the service manager said he was on my side- he'd seen this happen before (pulley trashing timing belt) and would not allow any more timing belt changes without the ($400)tensioner pulley changed. Gave me a loaner for a week, fixed everything and did not charge me. Seems all right so far. Bought this 99 9-5 used with 28k, have had to change SID, have leaking oil pump changed, had the thermostat die (!), changed a $300 smog part. Not sure if I should keep it after all that, though I do enjoy my car when it is running.Good luck to you with your engine woes.Mine have been quite draining.
