We asked this very question at the Aero Academy in early October. Their answer was that performance tires perform better at higher pressures. The cars at the Aero Academy have roughly 50 psi in the tires. The recommendation of the Aero Academy staff was to err on the high side, like the sticker says. This may not produce the softest ride, but in an extreme situation (hard stop, fast lane change, etc.) they may perform better. Sometimes every second and/or foot of road counts. I am keeping mine at the higher pressure on the door sticker: 43 front and 42 rear.
