I self performed this fix on my 2000 lpt and have had no problems with increased oil consumption. I also had no symptoms of any PCV problems prior to performing the modification.
The currently recommended fix is the second generation of changes to the PCV system. I purchased a new oil trap when I bought the other PCV parts and noticed that Saab had increased the orifice size to that specified in the first generation of changes. This leads me to believe Saab has probably changed the orifice size in OEM oil traps again to match that specified in the second generation of PCV modification instructions.
Since the cars are being shipped from the factory with this change, it must be important. This upgrade is easy to self perform; ramps, socket wrench, and a drill motor with bits are the only tools required.
