'99 9-5SE, V6 or 2.3LPT?..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Fri, 3 Dec 2004 11:17:29 In Reply to: Buying a 1999 9-5. Either one is a great car. Despite what you read on this BB, DIC failure is still an unlikely occurence, but that isn't good enough for some pessimists. It's overall a very reliable car and a DIC failure is probably one of the more likely things that could upset that, but it's still unlikely. Coil failure is at the top of the list for all modern cars with coil on plug ignition and/or coils mounted on or near hot engine components, but enought of my anti-DIC failure rant.....
I imagine the price of a 4 year 60k warranty will likely cost 5-8 times the cost of a replacement DIC, so it might not be a good investment for that reason, but may still be an overall wise option, depends on how you feel about warranties, no right answer on that score.
If it's a V6 you'll want to have the timing belts changed for free by Saab at 60k, and at your expense, some of the pulleys that are accessible while apart.
An SE gets you the killer Harmon Kardon sound, great car, lots of miles to go.
