I'm not sure I agree with your opinions.
I've worked around jet engines and they use synthetic oil exclusively. This is for improved lubrication, but more importantly, they don't "coke" as much as "dino" lubes.
I sure (I can almost guarantee it) others will weigh in with their opinions.
I do agree with what your saying about 5K miles between oil changes, especially with a synthetic oil.
I've used "dino" (Castrol and Pennsoil) on all my cars and have experienced good results. I am switching to synthetic on my SAAB, primarily because of the manufacturer's recommendation.
