Sounds reasonable to me, it is a safety feature, the clutch must be fully depressed in order to start the car. The switch is engaged in that last 1/4 inch. I've experienced the no start a couple times when I had on different shoes. There was a discussion going on last time I was at the dealer regarding having to also have your foot on the brake, this may be true in some models but not in mine. Enjoy the car, don't worry.
