Actually, I think it has something to do with the Euro specs when it comes to the accuracy of the spedomoter (sp?). In Europe, as far as I know, it is illegal for the spedometer to EVER read lower than the actual speed of the car. Given the fact that some people change their rims/tires, the spedometer will almost always give a reading higher than the actual speed. BMW's are notorious for showing a MUCH higher speed than reality, I know mine does. This was confirmed for me in Car & Driver maybe a year or two ago.
On a side note, when I go past those radar signs, my speed always shows up a full 6-7 mph lower than my '03 Aero speedo shows.
