I agree with comments made here and in past saabnet discussions, if you've got a very reliable car, it's a waste of money. From what I've seen on this board, 9-5's are reliable, but not best in class reliable. Thus, when you consider that some warranty type issues are possible and that Saab parts and service are relatively expensive, this adds up to making extended warranty's worth looking at. That's why I'll get an extended warranty.
But I'll get an indie warranty, not from GM/Saab. Why? B/c by getting an indie warranty there is no big brother relationship like there is with manufacturers car warranties. To put it another way, if the service department knows that the manufacturer won't be paying the bill it's easier for them take a more assertive posture on admiting when something needs to get fixed. Many good dealer svc departments do this anyway, but as we've seen on this board, many can be scrooge too.
Extended warranties aren't cheap, but when you consider the low cost of purchasing a used Saab, the addition still adds up to a bargain for a great car.
