a quarter tank for how long before it ran out? You probably should check your gauges a bit more often...
I tend to run mine full to emptier than I should (I'm better in the winter), but I've generally got at least 75-100 miles when I'm pretty clear I need to gas up.
FWIW, I've had 0 DTE on the SID, and knew I was just lucky that I got to gas station due to my stupidity. But I was watching like a hawk cause I knew I cut it too close. I always set the trip when I gas up, and I keep track of how many gallons I put in so I know better what I "really" had in reserve.
You may not have the same empty range if you're playing in the Rockies, either, due to the steeper inclines and declines and gas sloshing away from the pickup.
