One more brake question

Thank you everyone for the advise on the DIY brake job. It was a success.
However I do have one question...When I was finished going the front brakes and rolled the car out of the garage, there was a good size puddle of brake fluid on the floor. I checked the resevior and it was full to the brim which made me think because the pistons are pushed in further due to the thickness of the new pads, there is much less fluid in the lines, hence the excess fluid. It didn't seem to have come from the resevior cap though. But the drips underneath were in the vacinity of the resevoir.
So what I don't know is where the excess fluid came from and if it could cause future problems. After drying as much of it as I could, there doesn't seem to be anymore additional leakage.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
