Yep this is all true, but if the belt breaks or the tensioner puller bearing fails, the engine is still toast.
We had a 99 9-5 last week in our shop that had a tensioner pulley bearing fail and trashed the engine. Car had 109K miles on it. I don't know if the tensioner was replaced at the 60K belt (done somewhere else), but Saab will not pay for those items at 60K. Fiqure the tensioner bracket, lower idler pulley and about 1 hr extra labor with the belt job ($400-$500).
Customer traded the car in on a new one and the old one is going to wholesaler.
Still have issues with oil leaks, coolant leaks from the oil cooler lid, $1500 special turbo (it is part of the exhaust manifold for the front head. They now sport 2 DIs that do fail (not as bad as 4 cylinder) but have better (metal) valve covers.
