When I recently bought a 2000 2.3lpt wagon, I noticed some white (not blue!) smoke at startup. In fact, I noticed this on at least one other 9-5 (2001 wagon) I looked at. Both cars got looked at by a mechanic, and I asked them to specifically look closely at the turbo. Both times, they said no problem (at least as far as they could tell without tearing the thing apart). In fact, the service rep at the Saab dealer I took one car to said that some *white* smoke at startup was normal for the car, and the smoke would be obviously blue if there were turbo or head gasket problems. (Is this true, guys?)
Gary said "whitish-blue" smoke, so it's hard to say. I did get 15 mo. of CPO warrantee, so even if my turbo does go soon I'm covered.
