Les,

I am not a T7 guru by any means but I have done a lot of research and asked a lot of people's opinions regarding this topic, as well as some limited experience installing the device into cars of my own. Here is a basic summary of my understanding. It might not all be 100% accurate so please someone correct me if I have stated anything incorrectly.

T7 will tolerate higher boost to a certain point (seems to be different from car to car with manuals having more tolerance, possibly stemming from overboost function) without CEL or limp mode problems. SMBC installation does indeed increase boost above stock but the key selling point is that it puts the control back in the hands of the stock BPC valve once peak boost is attained. If you have the SMBC dialed all the way down, there is no difference compared to stock. If you dial the valve up, you are either keeping pace with stock boost or you are going to increase boost over stock until the ball opens and the signal is restored to the BPC valve. How much you dial is going to determine when the ball opens and this is not an exact science. The directions for use advise you to dial up boost until you get a fuel cut or CEL and then dial it back slightly. Any way you slice it, you are either not doing anything and there is no point to the installation or you are dialing in more boost than stock. The valve is very simple and it functions by cutting off the signal from the turbo to the BPC valve until the ball opens. In a system as complex as Trionic 7 with advanced knock protection and variable boost pressure, you do not want to be playing tricks fooling the system into boosting to a higher pressure....period.

The information I am getting is direct advice from SQR, Maptun and BSR. The information you refer to is from TSN enthusiasts who are surely knowledgable but probably bought into the concept of the system as I did when I first heard of it. I took a lot of appalled Europeans telling me I was insane and completely incorrect before I jumped sides. I have one sitting in my dresser as a matter of fact. I installed it for a day (2003 Aero 5sp MT) and I was able to dial up enough boost to pin the needle deep into the red without CEL or limp mode. I had also installed the valve into my 2000 Aero 4sp AT and was not able to dial in any more boost than stock without getting a CEL or limp mode.
