Well, after almost 7 years of ownership I have traded my beloved 9-5 for an Acura TL. Thought I would share some thoughts on the difference. First of all, I considered an 9-5 Aero but decided against it. There are certain inherent design problems with the 9-5 I no longer wanted to worry about, including failing DIC, pulleys systems, blue smoke on start up (turbo), leaves getting in my AC blower motor and few other issues.

The TL has an engineering feel that exceeds that of the 9-5. Everything is tight and smooth. Inerior noise levels are lower. The interior amenities (some gadgets) are both entertaining and useful. The DVD-A audio system is like nothing I have ever heard. Acceleration is equal to or stronger than that of the Aero with no turbo to worry about. I feel the overall package is more up to date and superior to the 9-5 (tough to keep 9 year old engineering fresh).

That being said, here are some things I miss from the 9-5. Reverse illumination is quite poor (my '99 model year had side reverse lighting), double right mirror is missed, suspension of the 9-5 had a more refined feel (sometimes the TL just feels stiff, but I had a very soft suspension on the 1999 9-5 and am starting to adjust to the stiffer ride). Also miss the exclusivity of the 9-5; TLs are everywhere. Leather quality on the 9-5 far exceeds that used by Acura.

My Saab was a terrifc car, but I wanted something more modern and up to date. Have not given up on Saab though...perhaps the replacement 9-5 will be my next car.

Happy Saabing!
