Ok, I know that there are a zillion posts about which oil to use etc., but Anders' post in the General board a few weeks ago on the sludged up 9-3 engine scared the crap outta me. That driver did all in-town driving...so does my wife. Typical trips are 10-20 minutes, with more on the weekend. Occasionally I use it on the highway. The car is an '01 9-5 wagon.
Since her total mileage is low, I figure that changes with full synth every 6 months will be fine. The question is, which is the best oil to use? The local Saab dealer has Saab-branded 0w-30 'full synth turbo oil' (the name is something like that), and of course Mobil 1 (0w-30,etc) and more exotic brands like Royal Purple , Redline, and Amsoil are sold locally. My wife's driving style is as gentle as it gets, so I doubt the thicker 0w-40 is needed.
Or, since it'll be every 6 months and a few thousand miles does it really make much difference?
