Mine didn't have a catastrophic failure Posted by adl6009 [Email] (#2526) [Profile/Gallery] (more from adl6009) on Thu, 13 Jan 2005 17:57:35 In Reply to: Sound of tensioner failing, Brendo, Thu, 13 Jan 2005 10:26:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
But after it was remove and I spun the pulley you could hear that it was bad. When it was in the engine I heard what sounded like a waterpump bearing going dry. It wasn't a constant whine but an intermittent type of metalic rubbing sound. Now, just to confuse matters, I also had to replace the water pump at that same time I repalced the timing belt and tensioner. The dealer stated that there was coolant present at the weep hole, that was the reason to change out the pump.
Considering the cost of a failure I would have an independent mechanic inspect the car. Good luck.
