Help- does anyone have any thoughts on what could be happening with our 2000 4cyl?
Driving back from the long weekend yesterday, the TCS OFF and Check Engine lights came on. As we were on the Miss Gulf Coast we pushed on toward Mobile. Was also idling very rough at that point when we stopped, but still cruised at 70. After about 30mi the engine quit and we coasted to the shoulder. At that point the car wouldn't respond to anything I did. We got a tow to a local shop where we found that our battery was completely dead. With a new one, it ran like new, but of course, the problem repeated after another half hour.
The car's at the (nearest) dealer in pensacola now, but they're telling me it drives fine today, tho it was in limp mode when they got it, and they can't see anything wrong with it, that the throttle body seems ok too.
my wife has noticed the "stoplight shudder" about once a day for a while, which the dealer here in Atlanta hasn't been able to duplicate after leaving it with them at least 3 times. At first we thought this could be related, that it might be electrical, if not the throttle body.
got a new DI cassette about 3k ago, dealer cleaned throttle body and put in new turbo last month. replaced several vacuum hoses then too, trying to stop the shuddering at stoplights. car has about 65k miles.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm not exactly eager to pick it up and drive it the 400 miles home until I think it's fixed...
