The nipple inserted into the oil filler pipe have full intake manifold vacuum at idle through the vacuum hose on the outside of filler pipe connected to throttle body.
The vacuum noise gets amplified in sound by the shape of oil filler tube.
My guess is that it is there that the higher oil consumption happens. Oilmist/fumes are sucked up from the oil sump and straight into the intake manifold.
One Saab owner decided to unplug that vacuum hose and connect it back to its original place up at the valve cover PCV nipple and he noticed a lesser oil consumption after that.
We'll see what Saab comes out with next in this saga.
