I love to drive my wife's new wagon. It's interesting to drive an auto turbo car (my car is a chipped Golf gti w/the 1.8 turbo, stick shift) as I felt sure their would be a pronounced dead-spot between normally aspirated and spool-up. Saab has done a great job with the lpt (better even, dare I say it, than VAG group) and the lag is barely noticeable.
The keys to long engine life as touched on above are: smooth driving style, proper warm-ups and equally important - proper cool-downs. The consensus amongst us 1.8t'ers is that if you have been driving spiritedly you should give your little turbo plenty of time to cool off while the engine is still running. If that means taking it easy towards the end of your destination or leaving the car at idle for a minute or two at your destination then so be it. One other thing - synthetic oil is the only way to go at oil changes.
