short shifter problem (pic inside)

I installed the Saab Savior short shifter a little over a year ago now. Recently I've had a problem with the shifter rod rattling between 1,500 and 2,000 rpm (in all gears). It's VERY annoying to both me and my passengers. If I simply rest a finger on top of the shifter, the rattle goes away. Apparently, the metal ball (you can see it below the roll pin in the pic) has worn over time? I can pull up and down on the shifter rod, but it moves ever so slightly. The rattle is coming from the metal ball vibrating on that metal surround (that is plastic on the stock shifter). So, two questions:
1) Has anyone else installed this short shifter and had a similar problem?
2) Any ideas on a lubricant of some sort that will expand?
The gentleman at Saab Savior did tell me there's a teflon bearing below the metal ball, so I figure it needs to be some sort of teflon lubricant. I apologize for my ignorance, as to the proper terminology for these parts. Thanks for any advice you may be able to offer.
