Be sure your engine mounts are intact. If they are, your pinion bearings are worn to the point where longitudinal endfloat of the mainshaft is allowing 2nd to disengage when power input is interupted to shift. If your engine output is stock, you can probably expect the lifetime of a rebuild to be similar to the current age of the trans. More power = less life. I don't like the post M91 trans as some new, serious weaknesses were introduced with the upsized synchros. M89-M91 trannies have the critical pinion bearing upsized and a superior countergear rear bearing arrangement. You can also upgrade your pinion bearing housing to the Eriksson modified version which increases both bearings to a size larger than that used by Saab in the M89-91 gearboxes.
