Hi,
I have an 87 900S. I bought the car about three months ago, and have had a slew of problems. I have no idea what the actual mileage is, meter says about 100,000 but it no longer works. Here’s my problem, hope you have heard this before:
About a month and a half ago my car was stalling out- usually at low speeds (from first gear starting out- to about third gear 40mph). The car would just die, sounded like it was winding down, the red lights in the dashboard would come on immediately. I would try to downshift to “pop start” it (manual transmission), and nothing would happen. I would pull over, wait about 15 minutes and it would run a few minutes. Also, the idle was very erratic when the engine was cold at start. RPM was from 500-3500 until it warmed up & balanced at 1200. I took the car to a mechanic (not a saab mechanic). They did a diagnostic, and said that my “air flow meter” was bad. They replaced it & it ran much better- with an occasional stall (maybe twice in a month). They also fixed a few vacuum lines.
About a week ago I filled my tank with some really cheap gas (here in CA gas is expensive). I drove the two blocks from the station to my house- no problem. The next morning, my car was running very rough at start -RPM was normal but the whole car was kind of “bouncy” & the engine sounded choppy. Later that afternoon, the car stalled while in a low gear (third? Going about 35mph). It sounded like the engine wasn’t getting gas. I put it in second, and was able to pop start it. The car got worse- stalls all the time. Now, I can’t even pop start it. I have been trying to run it at high RPMs, seems like it never stalls at high rpms. When It does stall, it takes about 20 minutes before it will start again.
Needless to say, I burned through that tank of gas rather quickly. I have been experiencing really BAD gas mileage all of a sudden. I filled the tank with Premium & put in a bottle of injection cleaner. The problem is getting worse.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Heather
