for example, the battery may not be being charged properly by the alternator. The battery could be defective. There could be a short in the electrical system.
The cheapest thing to address is the battery. Take it back where you got it and get them to test it for you. IF that is OK, then get a test of the alternator charging by reading the volts at the battery terminals - should be about 13.6 to 14 volts and should not change much with RPM. If lower than that, your regulator is gone. Replace it with a VW regulator - see Dave New's web site for details. If you don't have a VOM to read the voltage, Sears (or your battery vendor) may do it for free.
The short is a lot harder - I can't give you any advice on that.
